President El Sisi Meets President Trump on the Sidelines of UNGA

On Wednesday, 20 September, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly.

According to a statement released by the Office of the Presidency, President El Sisi “stressed the importance of reinforcing consensus on visions to advance bilateral relations so as to realize common interests of the two countries and peoples” and “stated that Egypt looks forward to increasing coordination and consultation with the US on various regional issues, particularly combating terrorism, given the grave threat it poses on the stability of the region and the world”.

In the meeting, the two leaders also touched on a number of regional and international issues, including ways to revive the peace process.

President El Sisi Meets U.S. President Trump

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met on Wednesday with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly.

President Trump expressed his appreciation for President El Sisi, lauded the outstanding relations between Egypt and the U.S. and affirmed the keenness of the US on further enhancing them. The U.S. president also stressed the importance of reinforcing consensus on visions to advance bilateral relations so as to realize common interests of the two countries and peoples.

President El Sisi offered condolences for the victims of hurricane Irma. The President underlined the importance of the strategic relations with the US and noted that both countries shall work diligently and constantly to maintain and enhance these relations, out of the conviction that they have a significant impact on the interests of both countries and peoples, in addition to their role in enhancing peace and stability in the Middle East. The President stated that Egypt looks forward to increasing coordination and consultation with the US on various regional issues, particularly combating terrorism, given the grave threat it poses on the stability of the region and the world. The President stressed the importance of continuing to decisively combat terrorism and to halt funding it and supplying it with arms and fighters as well as to halt providing it with safe havens.

The meeting touched on a number of regional and international issues, including ways to revive the peace process. The President outlined Egypt’s efforts to realize Palestinian reconciliation as a fundamental step to resume negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis. President Trump lauded Egypt’s efforts to this end and stressed the importance of continuing coordination and consultation between Egypt and the US in this regard.
