President El Sisi Meets With Jared Kushner and Jason Greenblatt in Cairo

On Thursday, 21 June, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met with Senior Presidential Advisor Jared Kushner, and Assistant to the President and Special Envoy for International Negotiations Jason Greenblatt in Cairo.

According to a statement released by Egypt’s Office of the Presidency, President El Sisi “underscored Egypt’s commitment to further enhancing and strengthening the strategic relations with the U.S. so as to serve the common interests of the two countries.” The President also “reviewed Egypt’s efforts to combat terrorism in tandem with its endeavors to achieve economic and social development.”

President El Sisi Meets U.S. Senior Advisor and Assistant to U.S. President

Today, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met with Senior Advisor to U.S. President Donald Trump, Jared Kushner, and Assistant to the President and Special Envoy for International Negotiations, Jason Greenblatt.

President El Sisi underscored Egypt’s commitment to further enhancing and strengthening the strategic relations with the U.S. so as to serve the common interests of the two countries, given the state of instability and current crises in the Middle East. The President reviewed Egypt’s efforts to combat terrorism in tandem with its endeavors to achieve economic and social development.

On the Palestinian issue, Mr. Kushner offered an overview of the U.S. administration’s efforts and contacts underway aiming to put the negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis back on track, and to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza. President El Sisi emphasized Egypt’s position in support of international efforts and initiatives to reach a just and comprehensive settlement, in accordance with international  references and based on the two-state solution along the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital of a Palestinian state. The President reviewed Egypt’s efforts to complete the Palestinian reconciliation process and to calm down the situation in Gaza, as well as its measures to ease the suffering of the strip’s inhabitants, including the opening of the Rafah border crossing during the holy month of Ramadan. This is in addition to Egypt’s ongoing contacts to push forward efforts to revive the negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis. President El Sisi confirmed that reaching a just and comprehensive solution to this pivotal issue will offer a new reality that will help realize stability and security for countries in the region.

The Senior Advisor to President Trump asserted that Egypt constitutes a cornerstone for stability in the Middle East and confirmed what it could do based on its historic role in this regard. Mr. Kushner expressed the American administration’s appreciation of and support for Egypt’s efforts toward fighting terrorism and extremism, as well as its role in supporting efforts to reach a comprehensive settlement to the Palestinian issue.
