The Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt requests Egyptian nationals residing in the US to issue the MRZ readable passport while visiting Egypt, as the Embassy's consular service of issuing the current manual passport will be terminated as of April 1, 2010. After this date, the Embassy and the Egyptian Consulates in the US may undertake to extend the validity of any expiring manual passports- on a one time basis only- for a period of two years after the illegal expirty of the passport (7 years). A temporary travel document could be issued as well with a validity of three months which could be renewed, free of charge, until further notice.
