Ambassador Shoukry arrives to Washington DC

Egypt's new Ambassador to the United States, H.E. Ambassador Sameh Shoukry arrived to Washington DC on September 22nd to assume his new position.

Ambassador Shoukry (56) had served as Egypt's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva (2005-2008) as well as Egypt's Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to the International Organizations in Vienna (1999-2003). Shoukry also served as the Director of the Minister of Foreign Affairs cabinet (2004-2005) and as Secretary for Information and follow-up for President Mubarak (1995-1999).

As a career diplomat who joined the Egyptian Diplomatic Corps in 1976, Ambassador Shoukry served in the Egyptian Embassies in London, Buenos Aires and the Permanent Mission of Egypt in New York. He headed the department of the United States and Canada in the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1994-1995).

Ambassador Shoukry holds a law degree from Ein Shams University. He is married with two sons.
